Northeastern Recognizes Women Innovators

Kaitlin McCarthy, E’09, civil engineering, won first place in the Experienced Alumnae category in the 2024 Women Who Empower Innovator Awards from Northeastern University, while Mukki Gill, E’25, mechanical engineering and history, placed second for the Powering a Healthy Tomorrow Award and received an honorable mention in the undergraduate category. Additionally, Nicole Guadagno, E’25, mechanical engineering, received an honorable mention for her work on Remetra in the undergraduate category, and Fatema Janahi, E’22, computer engineering, and MS’22, engineering management, received an honorable mention for Palm in the graduate category.

Annual Cochrane Fellowship Luncheon Celebrates Academic Excellence and Research Innovation

CEE University Distinguished and CDM Smith Professor and Chair Jerome Hajjar, along with CEE faculty and the development and alumni relations team, hosted the annual Cochrane Fellowship Fund luncheon. The event brings together past and current recipients of the Cochrane Fellowship and provides a unique opportunity for fellowship donors and recipients to engage in meaningful dialogue about their work and academic pursuits.

Co-op to Career Position

Jennifer Dueñas López, MS’23, civil engineering, completed a bachelor’s degree in transportation and highway engineering in her home country of Colombia before moving to the Boston area. After graduating from Northeastern with a master’s degree in 2023, she returned to her co-op at HDR to work full-time.

Personalizing a Path With Civil Engineering Co-ops and a Scholarship

Sebastian Lojano, E’24, civil engineering, had co-ops at Bond Brothers, DN Tanks, and Barletta Heavy Construction, which helped him determine his career plans. He was awarded a scholarship from The Moles, a national fraternal organization, for his demonstrated interest in the heavy construction industry.

Researching Data for Life-Cycle Assessments and Chemical Sustainability

CEE Associate Professor Matthew Eckelman and Abhijeet Parvatker, PhD’21, chemical engineering, collaborated on research about how the health care industry contributes to national and global emissions. This research later led Parvatker to pursue a consultant managing role at Sphera Solutions.
