Facilities

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering includes the following laboratory and office facilities. In addition to facilities on the Boston campus, a significant expansion of facilities on the Burlington Campus is completed with the construction of the Laboratory for Structural Testing of Resilient and Sustainable Systems (STReSS Laboratory) at the George J. Kostas Center for Homeland Security. The department facilities include:


4th Floor of Snell Engineering Center:

  • Department headquarters, all offices for faculty, staff, and visitors, conference rooms
  • 38-seat undergraduate computer/design studio
  • CEE graduate student and post-doctoral associate offices
  • CEE coastal resilience laboratory
  • Environmental chemistry/process laboratory with two walk-in environmental chambers
  • Environmental analytical laboratory
  • Environmental biotechnology laboratory
  • Geoenvironmental engineering laboratory

Ground Floor of Snell Engineering Center:

  • CEE Innovation Studio (new in 2022)
  • Teaching laboratories for surveying, construction materials, structures, fluids, soil mechanics, and environmental engineering, including a range of equipment for laboratory instruction
  • CEE infrastructure engineering laboratory
  • CEE sensor technology laboratory
  • Shake table for dynamic simulation
  • Seismic monitoring station
  • Fully outfitted and staffed machine shop
