Alessandro Mazzotta Receives CMAA Scholarship

Civil Engineering student Alessandro Mazzotta was awarded a Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) Graduate Student Award by the organization’s New England Chapter. Alessandro, a Master of Science student concentrating in construction management, received the scholarship in recognition of his academic, professional and extracurricular achievements.

Alessandro hails from the small town of Castellaro, located in the Italian Provence of Imperia. Using virtual reality and 3D scanning technology, Alessandro is creating a system that will allow the owner of a space to interact virtually with the finalized project while the building is still under construction. Clients will be able to modify the virtual space to better understand their designs. His work and research are advised and overseen by Professor Ali Touran and Assistant Professor Ryan Wang. He expects to graduate in May of 2020 after completing his research this coming fall.

The CMAA is an industry group whose mission is to “promote the profession of construction management and the use of qualified construction managers on projects and programs.” Founded in 1982, they have 29 regional chapters and nearly 16,000 members.
