Civil Engineering Alumni Organization

The Northeastern University Civil Engineering Alumni Organization (NUCEAO) was formed in 1978 to assist engineering students and to expand the capabilities and resources of the Northeastern University student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

It forms the core of the civil and environmental engineering alumni base and provides a range of support for the department, including providing speakers for the departmental and student organization seminars, mentors for current student activities, and generous donations.

Registration is now open for our annual alumni dinner on May 9, 2024!

2024 Outstanding Alumni Award Recipient

Ed Holmes, E'87

Ed has 37 years of experience in the water and wastewater engineering and construction fields. He has spent his entire career with DN Tanks, starting out as a design engineer, but shifting over to the construction management side of the business in 1989.

Ed managed construction operations as a Project Manager for more than a decade, and then managed Field Personnel for several years. He led the nationwide Construction Team for 18 years managing Superintendents, Project Managers, and Project Engineers. Ed also led the DN Estimating Team for 5 years.

Ed is very passionate about leadership development and has spent the last 6 years as a Director in the company’s Learning & Development group. The goal has been to develop a “leaders at every level” culture as the company builds for the future. He is also working with the team to develop a curriculum to help tank builders learn the required skills to grow their careers.

Ed has managed the Co-op Program in Wakefield for the last nine years. Inspiring young people to reach their full potential has always been a fulfilling and enriching experience for him.

Ed enjoys every visit back to the Northeastern University campus. He comes in twice each Semester as a ENCP 3000 guest lecturer covering leadership development with Jessica Ormsby. Also, the DN Team has supported the NU Engineers Without Borders Program for many years and their Donor Reception has been an annual visit for Ed and other co-workers.

In 2020 and 2021, Ed represented DN Tanks as the company established NU Endowed Scholarships for underrepresented Civil and Environmental Engineering students. There are currently three NU scholarships for black students, women students, and BIPOC students. These scholarships have allowed the DN Team to spend more time with the Black Engineering Student Society (BESS); the Society of Women Engineers (SWE); and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).
